I’m pretty good about turning things off when I’m not using them. I like the curly-q light bulbs too, in most cases. Not all cases though. Where I waste energy is in air conditioning. I like it COOL. My poor central air works 10 months out of the year. It sucks BIG electricity too!
I was looking at all those F-lights at WalNut, thousands of them in one store! IF they’d smply remove half of them in all their stores, that would save a hellofalotof energy, aye? Makes using those little bulbs seem insignificant. I think their electric bill is greater for one store than the whole froozin town combined! Many businesses should not waste so much! It takes a lot of fuel to make electricity. GE is happy about it!
Actually there are some Wal-Marts which have enough skylights that during bright sunlight, all the overhead lights turn off and the store is lit with just the natural light coming in. There’s one near me like that, and it was strange to walk in a store with no lights on… then as it got more cloudy and dark outside, the lights came on at half brightness, and then finally full brightness. That’s a pretty neat idea, I think.
I didn’t mean that so much at WalNut, many stores, most, use way more lighting then necessary. It would increase their prifit margin by lowering op costs, which could mean a RAISE for employees or hospitalization, if nothing else. ALL lights are ON at night, 2/3rds of the day! It would be a substantial savings of electricity. WE are told to conserve, but govy and business should do it first! This “save energy” is a ploy to sell fancy lightbulbs for GE etc., like the flu shot scares sells meds.
